The Queens 6x6 puzzle
The 6x6 Queens grid is the best place to start. Six rows, six columns, six colored regions: the board is small enough to hold every constraint in a single glance, and rich enough to teach the reflexes you will reuse on every larger size. You place one queen per row, one per column and one per color, and no queen may ever touch another, diagonally included.
On this format, the right method is to spot the smallest regions first: a color that covers only two or three cells sharply limits the options and often hands you the first queen. Once that queen is down, cross out every cell it forbids - its row, its column, its region and its diagonal neighbors. The cascading eliminations then reveal new forced cells, and the grid almost unravels on its own.
The 6x6 is fully solvable by logic, with no guessing. Every grid has a unique solution guaranteed by the generator, so if you are stuck, a deduction remains to be made - luck is never the missing piece. It is the ideal format to build confidence, understand the role of diagonal adjacency and rack up wins in a few minutes.
